Rajinikanth starrer 'Petta' leaked online by Tamilrockers on the release day itself

Superstar Rajinikanth's Petta has hit the screens today. Fans and followers can't control their excitement as it is none less than a festival for them. Celebrations started early in the morning with special shows at some theatre starting as early as 4 AM fans queued up in front of theatres early morning and celebrated the film stating 'Thalaivar Tharisanam'. The celebrations among the usual fan frenzy on the first day of the show are worth watching.

However, to the makers' dismay, the movie has been reportedly leaked online by Tamilrockers on the day of its release. 'Petta' movie is available to download on piracy websites. The news is definitely a shocker, even after making repetitive attempts of stopping piracy.

Recently, the producers of '2.0' starring Rajinikanth had moved to the Madras High Court to prevent the pirated version of the film to be leaked online. But Tamilrockers managed to leak the film after the release. The court had ordered more than 12,000 websites to be blocked. However, online piracy is plaguing the industry and eating up a larger chunk of revenue.

'Petta' directed by Karthik Subbaraj is a massive project and has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The film hit the screens today on January 10 on the Pongal weekend 2019.

Meanwhile, celebs have showered praise for Rajnikanth's Petta:

Samantha opens up on having a baby with Naga Chaitanya

Samantha said that she and husband Naga Chaitanya have already decided when they want to have a baby and that the actress will take a break from everything else once she has a child.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya have been married for about six months now, and the couple's fans have already begun speculating if the actress is pregnant with her first baby.

Samantha, on her part, has 'already fixed a date' as to when she wants to have a child.

In a recent interview with Film Companion, Samantha said that she and husband Naga Chaitanya have decided 'the timeline for when they will have a baby'.

"I have put a date as to when I want my baby. The date has been fixed! Like, as if that's going to happen according to the date we have fixed! But Chay (Naga Chaitanya) seems to be certain that it will happen on the assigned date!" said Samantha, bursting out laughing.

"But we have definitely fixed the timeline as to when we want to have a baby," said the Rangasthalam actress.

So, will acting take a back seat after she starts a family?

"When I have a child, that child is going to be my universe. I had the greatest respect for working mothers. My childhood was not very rosy. For all adults, who haven't had a very rosy childhood, the first thing they will tell you is that they want to give their child everything that they did not have. That's something that has stuck with me. So I think the first few years after I have a child, I would not be anywhere. That child will be everything for me," said Samantha.

She also spoke about how her life has changed after marriage. Samantha said that earlier, she had to think only about herself. But now, she has to think about her family also.

"Chay and I have a very normal approach to things; from writing our provision list to deciding the menu for dinner, to seeing if everything is there at home. Day-to-day activities are organised by us. I like to do that at home," said Samantha.

Samantha tied the knot with Naga Chaitanya in October 2017.

On the work front, Samantha is currently riding high on the success of the Telugu film Rangasthalam that is breaking record after record at the box office.

Ranveer Singh wants to keep on evolving as an actor

Actor Ranveer Singh says he wants to explore something new with each of his project, and keep on evolving as an artiste.

"As an artiste, I have always wanted to entertain audiences, at the same time offering something new to them with every film, with a constant endeavour to push myself to evolve as an actor," Ranveer said in a statement.

"With 'Simmba' again, I was doing something absolutely new, thus adding a new dimension to my repertoire," he added.

Last year, Ranveer garnered applause for essaying the role of villainous Delhi Sultan Alauddin Khilji in "Padmaavat". At the moment, he is enjoying successful run of "Simmba".

Ranveer's performance as the corrupt police officer Simmba, who has a moral turnaround to become the saviour of justice, has been getting positive response from critics and audiences.

Rohit Shetty's "Simmba", an action-comedy drama, revolves around a corrupt police officer who eventually stands up against rapist. Also starring Sara Ali Khan, the film opened on December 28 last year. It has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark.

Talking about the film, Ranveer said: "I had never done this kind of out and out masala entertainer -- a kind of movie I had always wanted to do. I'm extremely grateful to the audience for the love they have showered on my performance and on the film. It is encouraging and truly humbling. It has been an absolutely incredible year for me, and the success of 'Simmba' makes it an ideal way to end the year -- on a huge, huge high."

Ranveer credits the success of "Simmba" to Shetty's vision.

"I want to thank Rohit Shetty for believing in me and making me his hero. Rohit's vision propelled by the collective effort of his entire team has been the sole reason behind 'Simmba' hitting the bullseye. It has been an absolute honour to work with him and his stellar team. Their large-hearted mentoring and exemplary work ethic has spurred a tremendous growth in me as a performer.

"I am looking forward to our next creative collaboration," he said.

India gets short films channel

The Indian audience will now get to watch short movies on ShortsTV, which is in partnership with Tata Sky.

The channel was launched in India on Tuesday.

There was also a panel discussion, conducted by Carter Pilcher, CEO of Shorts International. Arun Unni, Chief Content, Officer of Tata Sky, Kristina Reed, a film producer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, Indian actress Rasika Dugal and filmmaker Jon Bloom were also part of it.

Talking about the inception of the short film "Chutney", Rasika said: "The film's maker Tisca Chopra, who is also a well-known actress, and I were irritated that none of our films, mostly independent, got enough exposure and good releases because those films never got good distributors at the time of their release."

"So we decided to do something about it instead of cribbing over it. Tisca wrote the story of 'Chutney' and then we made the film and offered ourselves the kind of roles that we, women, deserve."

However, she added: "I did not get paid for it because here... that is the reality of short films when someone wants to make content that is different from mainstream. But it is great how the short got views and recognition, thanks to digital platforms."

Reed, producer of the Oscar-winning short animation film "Feast", said what's amazing about short films is that one can make it with fewer resources.

"But what is important to know because everyone can make films with fewer resources. It is important to choose the best one to put out on the bigger platform. It is great to see how Shorts International is calling and curating some of the phenomenal short films. They really separate out those gems from thousands of short films."

Bloom explained the selection process of short films at the Academy Awards.

He said: "The fact of the matter is, there are a lot of shorts made and of all of them match the level to be qualified to the international scale. We only choose the one that is exceptionally good.

"There are two ways to get eligible for the Oscar competition - one, the film has to win an award at a film festival that we (the Oscar committee) not only recognise but also recognise the category. Secondly, the film should have a minimum one-week theatrical run in Los Angeles."

"Let me tell you, none of the processes are simple because every festival is very competitive and at times, filmmakers pay money to run a film at the theatre to get qualified for the Oscar competition. It is tough, very tough because we are choosing the best," added the Governor of Short Films and Feature Animation Branch, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The discussion was followed by the screening of four short films - "Feast", Jackie Shroff-starrer Indian short "Shunyata", "The Eleven O'Clock" and "The Phone Call".

Google inks pact with Disney to run online ads

Google inks pact with Disney to run online ads

Google has said it will now power advertising for Disney's collection of brands and properties -- including Disney, ABC, ESPN, Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars -- across multiple channels, including live streaming and direct-to-consumer content offerings.

As part of a global strategic relationship with Google, Disney will bring its entire global digital video and display business onto Google Ad Manager, which will serve as its core ad technology platform, Philipp Schindler, Chief Business Officer at Google, said in a blog post.

With the partnership, Disney will be able to serve video ads effortlessly on the web, in mobile apps, streaming through connected TVs and for live events, Schindler said.

"Together, we plan to build an advanced video experience for Disney that will transcend devices, platforms, and living rooms to bring the magic of premium video content into people's hearts, minds, and screens -- everywhere," he added.

Schindler said media companies are now reimagining the commercial break as TV is no longer a stationary box anchored to a corner in the living room.

While people now expect the same content they love in the living room on every screen, advertisers want to deliver quality ad experiences that are relevant, seamless and measurable across screens, he added.
